Good afternoon golfers, I hope you are all well and playing some good golf.
It's a quiet time of year for competitions, which makes it a great time to work on your game and make sure you start the playing season well. Personally, I think it's very important to have a good structured practise routine. Too often, we see people get 100 balls and hit them without a purpose or an idea of what they are trying to work on (smashing 100 balls with a driver can be quite satisfying mind!) therefore I thought an example of a practise routine. Let's say you normally hit 100 balls, I'd rather see someone hit 50-75 balls concentrating on quality rather than quantity.
Example Practise routine (50 balls):
Warm up- stretching/ swinging two clubs or whatever you do to ready your body to hit shots. Warm ups are vital to reduce risk of injury.
10 balls- some half shots with a wedge- think of these shots helping you to get your 'eye' in.
15 balls- swing drills which are designed to help work on any swing/ technical changes you are working on, using a 9 iron.
15-20 balls- hitting full shots with a 7 iron, hybrid/fairway wood and a driver picking a selection of targets and going through your routine for each shot.
5-10 balls- pitch shots with a PW, SW etc. working on hitting shots at different targets varying yardages.
I hope this helps, if you need any help please let us know.

The Ladies Daily Mail Team started the season in fine fashion with a fantastic 5-0 over Nene Park! A great win, keep it up!
Following on from lasts weeks' tip where we discussed how one of the key ingredients to playing consistent good golf is connection. This is the link between your body turn and arm swing, in all efficient golf swings there is good connection between the two (although the swings may look and be very different, think of Bubba Watson and Jason Day).
Check out this video for a clearer view.
Without good connection it is very difficult to have hit good shots again and again... To continue working on your connection try this drill (alongside last week's where we suggested to hit balls with a glove left arm pit) of practising ½ to ¾ shots with using a wedge or a 9 iron with a towel across your chest under each armpit. This will help to make sure your practise is helping you to play better golf, if you are struggling with your game contact us to book a lesson.
