Coaching news

Winter Packages

The winter package finished yesterday, this package was for those who were looking for real improvement over the winter period. We thank everyone who took park, and congratulate you on the hard work you have put in this winter. We look forward to the good golf you can play this year!

We had this testimonial sent in from Mark Lamb, who was on the winter package and who also won his winter league division:

"As a quite inconsistent golfer I wanted to try and use the winter period to improve the weak areas of my game, as well as get a greater understanding of the correct techniques used for various shots around the course. I enrolled in the Milton Pro's winter Package , which was amazing value and offers up to 4 lessons a week- something I took full advantage of!

During this time, Adam has world tirelessly on my game and I can safely say there is a marked improvement in my golfing ability thanks to his efforts and teaching methods. Now the summer is (nearly) here I'm looking forward to lots of golf and hopefully seeing the handicap start to drop!"

Thanks Mark. Watch this space for summer

We also received an email from Dougie Hill who was also on the winter package sent this,

"Having just completed the winter coaching package, I wanted to formally pass on my thanks to Adam for a superb winter programme that I would thoroughly recommend to any player wishing to improve their game. The sessions were always informative and fun, Adam's attention to my individual needs was excellent, Andy's help on my short game was brilliant. Thanks to both our Pro's for the hard work and support they give to all of the members, we are very lucky to have such a great team looking after us."

If you want to discuss having lessons please click here to send us an email or pop into the shop and let's have a chat.

Tip of the week

Adam's Tip of the Week

This week we are going to explain how to play a chip from a bare or muddy lie around the green. The first thing we must understand is that we are limited to what we can do from a lie like this. Hitting the ball high is nearly impossible, so if you have a bunker in your way I would suggest aiming away from the flag and trying to two putt.

The key to playing this shot well is to make sure that you strike the ball first and not the ground. When playing this shot we need to make a few adjustments at address.

1. Move the ball slightly further back in your stance.
2. Make sure we have the majority of our weight on the front foot.
3. A squarer face, to make sure we use the club correctly (when you open the club it makes this shot very difficult as you add bounce)

These changes will help us make a descending blow into the back of the golf ball. The ball will come out fairly low and run once it lands.

From a bare or muddy lie we are really looking for damage limitation. Taking 3 shots from a lie like this is not the end of the world. What we are trying to do strike the ball first and get the ball on the green.

When faced with a bad lie, take your medicine!
