Good Afternoon Golfers,
The Masters week is finally here and we can nowsay it's officially the start of the golfseason.
The Masters is always a fantastic weekof Golf to watch, this year is no exception withso many players coming into good form at theright time. It really is hard to pick a winnerthis year which will make it all the moreexciting, as always the winner will need a hotweek on the greens! A great start for defendingchampion Jordan Spieth shooting 66 (-6) to leadby 2, the chasing pack includes Shane Lowry, IanPoulter, Justin Rose and Paul Casey.
The par 3 tournament was great viewing with arecord 9 hole in ones (5 was the previousrecord), including an ace by 80 year old GaryPlayer, two shots holed in a row by JustinThomas and playing partner Ricky Fowler. On aside note, if watching the Masters doesn't getyou in the mood to get the clubs out, I'm notsure what will!

Adam's Tip of the Week
This week we are going to talk about reading thegreens. With The Masters on we are going to geta good look at how much some putts can break onsome of the fastest and most sloping greens inthe world. If you can imagine putting in yourbath tub, then this will give you an idea of howfast the greens are this week. But how do weread the greens?
The easiest way to read a putt is from behindthe ball and from the low side of the putt;however, most people miss the easiest way toread a putt, and this is when you walk up to thegreen from distance. When you look from distanceyou can get a real sense of the overall slopeson the green, which you can easily miss once youare standing on the green. The other way is touse your feet as you are on the green, to feelif you are going up or down hill, as you walkaround the hole.
Next time you're on the putting green pick aputt that has a side slope, roughly 15 feet, andhave 3 balls ready to putt. With the first ballroll the ball to the hole on what you think isthe correct line, on the next putt roll the ballhigher up the slope and use less speed. With thelast ball aim much straighter and roll the ballwith more speed. So how did you get on,hopefully they all went in? If they didn't goin, which ball finished closer to the hole?Different players have their own preference forputting, some are more aggressive and like tosee the ball hitting the back of the hole andhave no issues about the 3 or 4 foot putt comingback. Others use more slope and let the ballfall into the hole and, if they miss, have anice easy tap in, but accept that their ball maycome up short sometimes. You will be able to seehow different players approach their putts thisweek.
Dave Pelz has famously done some research tofind out what is the perfect speed for the ballto have the best chance of going in the hole, and that was 17 inch's past the hole. So whenyour practising your putting think about theslope of the green and how this affects thespeed. The first thing we must understand aboutcontrolling speed is to read the greencorrectly. So practise reading your putts on thepractice green, rather than just using the flatpart. Before you know it your speed will haveimproved and you haven't changed anything aboutyour putting, you are now simply using your eyesand senses to read the greens better.
If you are still having problems with yourputting please come and see us as it could be atechnical issue with your putting stroke, or,please clickhere to get in touch if you need any helpor advice.
