Adam's Tip of the week
After a visit to the PGA Headquarters for a Ground force reaction and 3d Biodynamics seminar with Dr. Robert Neal, it only seems fair to pass on some of the information that I have learned.
We discussed how we use the ground to create force in the golf swing in order to hit the ball with speed and accuracy. We all want to hit the ball as far as we possibly can time after time, in fact I have never had anyone come for a lesson and say "you know what I could just do with not hitting the ball quite as far"! Everyone wants to hit the ball further. To achieve your potential we need to make sure that we understand the correct sequence of events in the golf swing.
Firstly we make a move into the backswing moving our weight to our back foot almost straight away from the golf ball. Then once we have got roughly 80 percent of our weight on our back foot, we start moving this weight back into our front foot, this actually occurs before we have finished our backswing, if we are going to achieve our optimum power. This makes sure that we use the correct sequence in the golf swing, referred to as the kinematic sequence. The kinematic sequence is the sequence of speed and energy which is produced during the golf swing and is identical in all good balls strikers. So if you want to hit the ball further it's time to start working on your sequence of your golf swing. Watch your friends that slice the ball next time on the course. I wonder if they start the downswing with their lower body or their upper body.
Try this exercise, make a backswing and stop, now from here feel like you shift your weight back to your front foot without turning your body back to the target. Rehearse this a few times (can use a mirror if this helps), now try hitting a ball with this feeling. Don't worry if you miss the ball or hit a bad shot, this is normal as you are changing the sequence of your golf swing. Practice this for a few weeks and not only will your ball flight have a good chance of changing but your speed will have improved dramatically!

Lighter Nights mean Busier Nights
The range and course have been a lot busier in the last few weeks now the lighter nights are upon us, it's great to see so many members who are keen to improve their games. One thing- is your practice helping or hindering your game? We often see people practicing the same things (long game, full swings etc...) but at this time of year with competitions and matches coming thick and fast, it's important to work on your whole game, especially the scoring clubs.
Just a reminder, on Tuesdays the driving range closes at 6pm for you all to use the academy course.
Pro Pro Match
We had our first Pro Pro match last week against Bob Duthie and Scott O'Connor, we managed to win this one after they beat us in our last match! If you are interested in playing a match please contact us.
