Adam and Iwere away playing in the PGA Club Pro qualifyinground at Little Aston last Friday, on a winteryday (hard to believe this time last week we hadhail!) Adam shot 79, and I fared slightly bettershooting 74 and getting through in a 9 man playoff. The PGA Club Pro Championship is at theOxfordshire Golf Course in July.

Our assistant Aaron Wilkinsonturns Professional today, making his first Prostart at Woolaton Park on the Eagle Tour. Aaronwill also be starting his PGA Training laterthis year. I'm sure you will join us in wishinghim the best of luck for the remainder of theyear and for his future in golf. Keep up thehard work!

Tip of the week

Adam'sTip of the Week

This week I want to talk about maximising yourdistance with the driver. The angle at which theclub travels into the golf ball (angle ofattack) is important as it can make up to 20-30yards difference to your drives, without havingto increase your club head speed. Often peopleare obsessed with club head speed, whereas theyshould really be looking at their angle ofattack and whether or not they are hitting thecentre of the golf club.

So this week I want you to grab a empty sleeveof golf balls (3 pack size) and place thisdirectly in front of your teed up ball, roughlya grip length in front of the ball. Now try andhit a drive with ought the ball or the clubtouching the box. This will make sure that yourclub is traveling on the upswing or positiveangle of attack. If this is easy then work thebox closer to the golf ball.

When you get this right you will find the balltravels higher through the air but due to yourangle of attack the spin on the golf ball isreduced helping add more distance to yourdrives.

For example if your angle of attack is:

-5 degrees the carry is 191yards.
0 degrees the carry is 203yards
+5 degrees the carry is 214yards

(Note this are based on a club head speed of90mph)

The more club head speed you create the biggerthe yardage gaps between these different anglesof attacks.

Don't give away potential distance!
