Adam and I played in the Northants PGA Strokeplay Championship on Monday in breezy but warm conditions at Kingsthorpe Golf Club. We both faired well and the practise we have been putting in is starting to work. Adam finishing tied 3rd with scores of 72 + 73, I finished 2nd with scores of 71 + 72. However we were a few shots behind Simon Lilley who won with scores of 62 + 70!
I travelled to Hadley Wood Golf club on Thursday for the Foremost Golf Championship, in wetter conditions and shot 74. The course is a Mackenzie design (the same as Augusta National) and was in great condition, well worth a visit if you are in the London area.

At this time of year when the grass starts to grow very quickly. Keeping out of the rough is essential for anyone wanting to post a good score. Often on the tee we are all guilty of reaching for the driver or 3 wood and try to hit the ball as far as we can. However sometimes playing for the widest part of the fairway or using a club you are comfortable hitting straight, is safer as the margin for error is bigger. After all it's easier to make pars and birdies from the fairway then the rough or trees. In practise take note of what club you are most comfortable hitting the fairway with and ensure you give yourself the best chance of playing well! Click here to see more tips.
