Good afternoon golfers, we hope you are well and enjoying your golf, the course is in great condition and is a real pleasure to play.
The BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth started yesterday, the flagship event of the European Tour. The course looks fantastic and some of the golf early on has been excellent viewing. Scoring was low, with the man of the moment Danny Willett shooting 66 (-6) in round one. Can he make up for last week's disappointing back nine in The Irish Open at The K Club, where Rory McIlroy won by 3 (-12) this was mainly down to his second shots into the 16th and 18th, both par 5s where he set himself up for a birdie and eagle. The power and accuracy of these shots was incredible to see.

This week we are going to talk about playing from the edge of the green when your ball as sat down in the rough. The key to this shot is to understand that if grass is thick we need we need to try and avoid our club contacting lots of grass behind the ball.
In order to do this, we will need to make sure our club comes into the ball on a steeper angle of attack. To achieve this, we will need to make a few adjustments at setup, firstly we need to have the majority of our weight on our front foot with the ball middle in our stance, and secondly the handle of the club must be in front of the ball at setup and impact.
Lastly we need the club to travel more up and down into the golf ball, this way we avoid snagging the club in the grass before we contact the ball. When playing the shot this was the ball can generally come off the club a little fast than normal sue to the steeper angle of attack, so depending on your distance to the flag I would recommend using a club with plenty of loft for this shot.
This shot requires some practice, but once you have got a feel for it you will be getting the ball much closer to the hole.
