Greetings golfers,
We hope you all enjoyed the final Major of the year, the PGA Championship, it was another fantastic finish to a major championship with Jason Day making eagle on the last to forcing Jimmy Walker to have to make par to win. Was great to see Jimmy Walker win and if you listen to his interview afterwards he was explaining that he had been struggling with his game and found something the week before. Just goes to show you that even the best golfers in the world struggle with their game, as well as how quickly you can turn your game around.
Captains Day on Saturday was a huge success with over 200 players taken part in Dave's day. Everyone had a great time, we certainly enjoyed having fun on the 11th hole with the captains beat the pro competition. The total raised for the Charity will be in next week's newsletter!

I was away last week for the PGA Club Pro's Championship at the Oxfordshire GC, after a promising start of 72 (level) in round one in blustery conditions. I was hoping to move up the leaderboard in round 2, however after a solid start (-1) through 6 holes I proceeded to have a bogey, followed by what can only be described as a "Tin Cup" moment on the next hole resulting in me making my highest score on a hole as a Professional... A 10. Signing for a disappointing 81 and missing the cut.
A great week spoilt in a split second (or 10) and left to rue 1 bad decision. Onwards and Upwards! A special mention for Thorpe Wood Professional and social member of PMGC
Stuart Brown who had a great week and finished tied 3rd.
It was back on the bike for the Northampton GC Midlands PGA Pro Am on Tuesday. A team from PMGC and I had a great day with the team finishing -8, and finished tied 2nd in the individual Pro events after a round of 69 (-3).

This week we are going to talk about how important it is to always work on your pivot or turn of your body. This is one of the most important aspects of your swing as your turn can have a massive influence on your balance, swing path, centre of strike and club head speed.
We hear all the time 'I want to hit the ball further or be more consistent.' But when we look at their swing, their pivot or balance is all over the place and very inconsistent. Remember if the club head travels at 100mph then the body is only pivoting at 2mph. So to achieve your goals of more consistent golf and longer shots we need to make sure that your swing is as efficient as possible.
To achieve this I would like you to watch the video below and practise this in the mirror at home and on the driving range in between shots. What we are trying to do is get our body to pivot in balance whilst shifting our weight to back foot and into front foot. If you struggle with this exercise then you may need to visit your local physiotherapist to make sure that you don't have any restrictions in your body.
Make this part of your practise every week, not just this week and you will be on the road to seriously improving your golf. It is also a great warm up exercise before you play. This drill It will help your swing to be more efficient due to better balance and pivot, resulting in better strikes from the centre of the clubface and increased club head speed.
Keep practising and if you need any help or would like pointers on how to pivot better please don't hesitate to contact us.
