Good afternoon golfers, we trust you are all well and enjoyed the bank holiday.
The Ryder Cup teams were finalised this week Europe's Captain Darren Clarke selecting Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer and Thomas Pieters. Personally I thought Russell Knox was unlucky to miss out, but the European team looks really solid and I think it's great to see a mix of 'rookies' and 'veterans' in the team. With the match only 3 weeks away, who do you think will win and what players do you think will shine? In my opinion I think the final result will be very close, with Europe just pipping the USA (hopefully!) with Willett and Pieters scoring the most points for Europe.
Course Maintenance The annual major course maintenance has been carried out this week, the work on the greens has gone very well and people have been commenting on how they are putting following the maintenance.
Work carried out has included:
- 8mm pencil tining
- Top dressed
- Aerated using a new machine the green staff have had in on demo this is designed to improve root health and structure by pumping air under the greens.
- Double vert cut at 1.5mm
- The greens have been rolled using the iron to help smooth them out.
This work is essential to ensure the greens can putt as well as possible throughout the year, I am sure we can all agree the course has been fantastic for the past few months!
Milton's juniors achieve historic treble and continue to have great success at County level!
"Our Northamptonshire Junior league teams continue to have a remarkable season recording a historic treble, with all three of our teams winning their respective leagues and progressing to the semi-finals. PMGC1 now play Collingtree Park and in an all Milton showdown PMGC2 face PMGC3. Many congratulations to all the players who have represented us this season - you have really done the club proud and good luck in your semi-finals.
Meanwhile this Sunday (the same day as the Collingtree semi-final) PMGC Juniors play in the final of the Cambridgeshire Friendly Cup against Nene Park at Elton Furze. The selection headaches for the various fixture clashes in the coming week made Darren Clarke's Ryder Cup wildcard picks look easy!!
Robin Williams starred for Northamptonshire in the final of the English County Boys Championship last week, winning 5 of his 6 matches and helping Northamptonshire to overall third place. Finally well done to Emily Horsted who continued her run of winning form, taking the Four Counties 9 hole title at Northampton at the weekend".

This week's tip of the week is trying to help you find some consistency with your swing. One of the key factors to having a consistent swing is to be able to swing in balance, the only way we are going to be able to achieve this is if we first start from a correct setup position for you (in balance). To achieve this take your normal address position, from here stand straight up holding the club in front of you with the club head pointing to the sky.
Now bend forwards from the hips so that your upper body bends over slightly with your knees slightly flexed, now and let the club fall to the floor, this will give you a good indication to weather you are too close or too far away from the golf ball.
Note your weight should be in the balls of your feet, not too much on the toes or your heels. If you find that ball is not in the correct position move the ball so that you are the correct distance from the ball. Now we are giving ourselves the best chance of swinging in balance as we are now starting in a good balanced setup position. Everyone is built differently and therefore will always look slightly different, so although there is not one setup that works for everyone I believe there is correct setup for every individual- see our
YouTube video here.
