Greetings from Andy Thorpe and Adam Chamberlain
Peterborough Milton Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Many thanks for taking the time to read this week's newsletter. It's all go here and finally it seems we have some good golfing weather- the greens maintenance went well and this is perfect weather for the course to recover.

Is everyone playing some good golf?? If not why not book a lesson or two and get the balls going in the right direction? It's a tough game and the best players in the world still have regular coaches and lessons, why don't you?? Click here or speak to us in the shop to book- we have a few slots available next week.

Midweek Medal

Played in slightly better weather than Sundays Competition it still proved a stern test. Standard scratch moved to 74 (+3)

Division 1 - Tom Burgh great score of 1 under par 70 off his scratch handicap for a .4 reduction. Well done Tom!
Division 2 - Leigh Wynne 83-11= 72 nett
Division 3 - David Kinder 99-28= 71 nett

Presidents Cup Qualifier

The Presidents Cup Qualifier was played on Sunday in terrible conditions; Strong winds and rain which proved a stern test with the standard scratch being 75 and net 81 qualifying for the knockout stages.

Scott O'Connor who has been having regular lessons over the winter and had some new PING S55 irons at the start of the season took first place with a great score of 74 for a nett 70.
2nd Ian Kerr 74-3 =71
3rd Neil Brown 77-5 =72 (c/b)
4th Les Burton 86-12 =72 (c/b)

Good luck to everyone for the knockout stages, the sheet is up on the noticeboards.

Alan Peterkin and Ted Dunn won their 3rd round of the Daily Mail foursomes beating Rutland County pair Deggie and Chris Palmer. Good luck for the next few rounds!

The Scratch team lost away at Staverton Park 4 ½ to 3 ½ on Saturday, unlucky guys we're sure you'll be back to winning ways in the next game.

I played the Midlands Glenmuir qualifier last Friday at Little Aston Golf Club shooting 73 (+1) in windy wet conditions to finish tied 8th 2 behind the winner. This was good enough to qualify for the PGA Glenmuir Strokeplay Championship at Blairgowrie in August.

Pro Away Day

We are pleased to announce we have secured a Pro Away Day at Belton Park Golf. Belton Park is a great course and we look forward to some of you joining us there. It takes place on Friday 4th July and costs £50 per person this includes:

  • Bacon sandwich and coffee on arrival
  • 9 holes warm up in a team format
  • Quick bite after 9 holes
  • 18 holes individual competition followed by a 2 course meal and presentation.

All this at a great venue for £50 per person. Contact us to book by email or in person in the shop. There will be a sign up sheet on the noticeboards. We have limited numbers! We will look at having a coach to take people from the club. Let us know if this interests you. Open to everyone and we look forward to having a great day!

Saturday - Martins Mixed
Sunday - Woodcock Kirk Qualifier
Monday - Divot Party - Meet on the 1st tee at 5pm. Sandwiches and drinks afterwards.
Tuesday - Rose Salver 9.15-11.00
Wednesday - Rose Cup. 2 Club and a putter - A good fun competition what clubs will you use? I think i'd use something like a 4 iron/hybrid and a 9 iron.
Thursday - Rearranged Seniors Stableford which is a two tee start from 8.30am and the Cecil Leitch match vs. Silverstone
Friday - Exchange day with Blankney. Anyone who isn't going to Blankney the tee is closed between 10.30am -1pm for the visiting players.

A shot that we find useful around the greens at this time is a chip and run with a hybrid. This is useful when you are on the fringe or apron- it gives you the accuracy of a putter but gives a little bit more loft so you don't have to hit it as hard to get through the grass. A shot which you see used by the Tour players. Well worth giving a go! Maybe have a couple of practise goes first!

VokeyBagDeal of the week

Earlier in the season Titleist released their new SM5 Vokey range- with different lofts, grinds and bounces you'll be able to find the perfect wedge to help lower your scores. We have a selection of demo wedges for you to try and contact us to book a wedge fit. With every Titleist SM5 Vokey purchased you are entered into our draw for a limited edition Vokey tour bag.

Don't worry if you have already purchased your SM5 we've added you into the draw! We will draw this on the Sunday of the Open Championship.

Last chance battery trade inHow would you like to save some money so you have more cash for that round you owe in the clubhouse?! Well, if you trade in your old battery we can give you £25 against a Lithium battery.

Lithium works out a lot cheaper over time and is the best way to power your golf trolley. This is your last chance – take advantage now.

Good golfing and see you at the weekend

Save yourself time and money, go lithium!

Sure, a lithium trolley battery may cost a little more than its lead acid alternative; but Motocaddy lithium lasts five times longer, is a fraction of the weight and recharges much faster. For trolley power, it pays to play the long game.
