This week we are going to help you make sure your getting the most out of your drives. If you are someone that feels they are not driving the ball to your potential then this is defiantly a tip for you.
Firstly, everyone swings the club at a different speed, but to make sure we get most out of our club Head speed, we need to make sure this speed is in the right location. A lot of people when asked where the club head should be traveling it's fastest, will say at the got ball, which of course is correct. However what we see when watching their swing is a club head that is traveling at its fastest before impact or even from the top of the swing, which actually results in the club head swinging slower than its potential at impact.
The idea I want you to think about this weeks is for the club head to be traveling it's faster about a foot after the golf ball. This will help you keep the speed in the right place at impact, resulting in your golf ball traveling further without actually adding any extra speed. Practise with your driver, swinging the club and trying to get the swoosh or speed of the club to be a foot after the golf ball.
Practice 5-10 swings and then try to replicate this with the golf ball and repeat the processes for 5-10 balls. Try this 2-3 times a week and you will be amazed how much further the golf ball is traveling.
Extra club head speed at impact can also show up some impact errors such as an open face, which causes the ball to curve to the right of target (for a right handed golfer). If this is the case then come and see us and we will be happy to help you straighten up your drives.
