Good afternoon Golfers,
Last Saturday we celebrated our new Captains as they flew in for the Captains Driver in! If you were not able to attend you missed a stunning entrance as Captain Ian Smith and Lady Captain Christine Hunt flew in by Microlight Aircraft, landing on the practise ground. This was then followed by the traditional Captain's Drive In on the first tee with Captain Ian, Lady Captain Christine and Seniors Captain Mike Williamson.
Unfortunately our Junior Captain, Ben Morris, was unable to be with us Saturday due to a family wedding, however he will have his Captains Drive In on the Junior Christmas competition on the 22nd December.
The Captains driving distance competition was won buy Derek Mankell, Congratulations for picking the correct distances.
Captain Ian's drive was 267 yards
Lady Captain Christine's drive was 204 yards
It was a brilliant occasion seeing them all hit fantastic long drives. We would like to wish all our new captains a great year!
Also this week sees the return of Tiger Woods. Can he get back to winning ways or will he struggle to get back to his best. It seems highly unlikely that he or anyone else will ever play the quality of golf he once did. Will be interesting viewing this week.
Course Improvements
You may have seen that this week Stephen and his team have been hard at work on the first tee, they are going to be re-levelling and creating three separate teeing areas for the men's white, yellow and blue tees. The tees will be staggered in height with the whites the tallest tee and the yellow next with the blues at the current height just re levelled.
Stephen and his team will also be working on the second and eighteenth tees over the winter.
With the slippery conditions of recent days it is imperative that you maintain good balance when you swing the club.
This week we are going to give you our favourite practise drill, this has been tried and test for many years/ generations. So this week I would recommend that you add this drill to your warm up routine every time you play or practice.
On the driving range make your normal setup position to the ball and from here now shuffle your feet together until they are touching. The ball should be in the centre of your feet. From here swing the club and strike the ball without losing your balance. Try 10-20 shots like this and you will be amazed how far and straight the ball will fly. Some people may even think they would be better of playing like this as they hit the ball better!!
Practice this every time you go to the driving range and you will be on your way to better golf.
