Good afternoon golfers, I hope you are all well and working hard on your games ready for the coming season! I think it's only fair to start with the Graham Storm Story.
In lasts weeks European Tour Event the BMW South African Open, Graham Storm won for the first time in 274 starts, claiming his second European Tour victory by beating World Number 2 Rory McIlroy on the third extra playoff hole. What made this win so special was just 84 days ago he had missed a par putt on the 18th green at the Portugal Masters, causing him to lose his playing privileges by only €100 and lose his tour card he had held for 11 years. However, Patrick Reed opting not to play in the Final series as he hadn't played enough events to qualify for the Order of Merit, Storm moved up one place and retained his card!
The muchly anticipated PING i200 Irons are now in and available for custom fitting. They are available for pre-order before the official launch on February 2nd, contact us to book a fitting!
With the finish on the new i200 irons, there is a smooth hosel to face transition, minimal offset and a thin top rail to give the irons a tour inspired look.
There is no sacrifice with the new irons, distance is still coupled with great precision. The i200 has a thin face to create a faster hitting surface to increase distance and give you the chance for tour level gapping.
A hidden insert at the base of the club provides an instant vibration at impact, when this activates it creates an unmatched feel.
So how is it different from the previous model?
Well this is the big question everybody wants the answer to, how is it different from the last set of irons?
In summary, PING, say many of the features shown above are actually brand new to the i200. For example, the new finish on the irons is a lighter, more polished shade, allowing the smooth look. The new thin hitting surface is 30% thinner than that on the old i-series. As well as this, the new hidden insert on the i200 has been moved higher up the face, this means that instead of it being right at the bottom on the old club, it is in a more neutral position. This reduces face twist, meaning that the club is much more forgiving with off centre hits as well as truer with good strikes.
Personally, I think this club sits great and is going to appeal to the masses. It has the classic looks, with a thinner top edge (something PING at times hasn't been renowned for!) and by moving weight from the clubface (by thinning it) they have moved more weight around the club which will improve off centre hits. Lee Westwood is already a fan, note how he writes his yardages on each club (The thought here is that these are adjusted yardages due to the ball flying further than normal in the hot Abu Dhabi air).
