Good afternoon golfers,
I hope you are all well and enjoying some golf in the long overdue sunshine (hooray!). It is great to see many of you playing and some familiar faces coming out of hibernation ready for the season. The good weather has allowed the builders to get the concrete in for the foundations (after three lorry loads it was full!), fingers crossed for some more dry weather and the studio will be here in no time.
European Tour
Lake Karrinyup Country GC Perth plays host to the European Tour this week and will see a new format trialled (see picture). It's great to see the tour trying new things to increase the reach golf has and participation in the sport.
Let's see how this week plays out. Let us know whether you think that this is a positive move or not?
In other news, a new innovative European Tour event has been announced at The Centurion Club (not too far from us!) called the Golf Sixes. Described by the tour as "a revolutionary and novel short form of the game which further illustrates the Tour's desire to embrace innovation and originality in professional golf". The new event will have a one million Euro prize fund, have two man teams from 16 nations, each represented by its highest eligible ranked player who then chooses his playing partner.
They will play six hole match Greensomes, in a group before leading qualifiers go through to the knockout stages, until the winners are determined. Check out the European tour announcement for more information. Personally, I think it's great to see the tour trying new things in a bid to attract new people to the game.
We am re-introducing the captain pro challenge this year. The format will be a four ball better ball matchplay, all shots from lowest handicap based on 90% allowance. All matches to complete 18 holes. Prizes at the end of the year for best overall scores. The cost will be £10 per pair, side bets up to £20 allowed. All profits to Captains Charity, Macmillan Cancer support.
