Good afternoon golfers I hope everyone is well and enjoying some good golfing weather. The course is in great condition with the greens running at a really nice pace.
Martin Kaymer showed everyone how to win convincingly and led from start to finish in last week’s US Open. It is nice to see a great player who has struggled with some swing changes get his form back and play great golf again. It's a good reminder to us all that swing changes don't happen overnight and it takes time. Let's hope we can stay positive about England's lack of footballing prowess at the moment- signs of improvement but constant reminders how far away we are from competing with the best (even not so good) national sides in the world.
Paten Cup
The winner of the weekend’s bogey competition was Graham Marshall with a great score of +5 (winner on c/b). Graham has been having lessons and working hard on his game. Nice playing Graham the hand work's paying off!
Midweek medal
Divison 1-Graham Key 80-8= 72 Nett
Division 2- Jason Turner 84-13= 71 Nett
Divison 3- Kevin Lancaster 82-16= 66 Nett.
Nice score Kev- nice to see the hard work is paying off. Enjoy the new handicap- well done!
Pro/Pro match
We were convincingly beaten by the Italian pairing of Lou and Pep by a score of 4 and 3. Unfortunately it was much the same last Saturday night in the football. If you are interested in playing a Pro/Pro match please contact us. Click here to let us know.
Golfbreaks PGA Fourball Qualifier
Adam and I played in the pairs PGA Betterball qualifier on Thursday at Swindon Golf Club. Unfortunately we finished 1 shot outside the qualifying score.
Adam and I are playing at Luffenham Heath on Monday in Open Qualifying. See next week’s newsletter to see how we get on. Best of luck to members Jamie Hibbert and Chris White who are also playing at Luffenham in the qualifier.
Don't forget to put your name down for the Pro Away Day on the 4th July at Belton Park. 27 holes. Food all day! We have 43 people confirmed at present and we can have up to 60.

This time of year unfortunately, during a round, everyone is likely to encounter a shot out of the rough/long grass. This is where often the best way to escape is to take your medicine and hit a club (hybrid, short iron, wedge) to get the ball back into play.
The first thing to determine is how bad the lie is- if it’s a shocker- hit a wedge and aim for the widest part of the fairway nearest you. Even if you have to go sideways. Don’t turn a bad lie into a bad hole.
Set up tips-
Ball in the middle of the stance and place more weight on your front foot (60-40) to make sure you hit down on the ball. It’s not a pretty shot or swing- just a bit of brute force and dig it out. If it is a really bad lie grip the club a bit tighter as this will reduce the likelihood of the club twisting.
Beginner lessons
This Saturday is the last of the beginner coaching lessons before the next 6 week course begins on the 26th July. If you know anyone who is interested in a FREE 6 week beginner course- please contact us.
Girls coaching
We only have a couple of spaces left for the girls group coaching which starts on the 5th July for 4 weeks. This class will run from 10-11am- we hope to be able to run more of these classes throughout the summer.
Junior coaching
Watch this space for dates of the next instalments of the popular junior classes. The Junior Passport programme has been going down very well and we look forward to introducing youngsters to the game. We will also be running some Junior Summer Holiday classes throughout the school holidays.
