What will the new year bring?

We would like to wish you all a very Happy New Year and hope that you all have a fantastic 2018.

The weather has not been kind over the Christmas and New Year holidays, but it’s great to see the course is now open with the buggy and trolley bans lifted. With this said, please do take care as there are still some wet areas on the course.

Who is going to be the break through player in 2018? Could it be Tiger Woods?

Let us know who you think will have a great year.

Stephen and the guys have been busy working on the course, see the photo showing the new renovation to the 9th bunkers.

Studio news

Junior Studio Night

We had a great night with Robin Williams in the studio last week. He was answering questions and giving advice to the juniors. Great to see him giving back to PMGC and was a pleasure to watch him hit balls. We wish him and all the juniors a successful 2018.

Ladies January Winter Competition

In first place was the team of Rachael Fisher, Lesley McFarlane & Diane Ahearne with 138 points. Coming in second was the team of Ros Cuthbert, Elaine Mankelow & Sandra Stout with 134 points.


Rearrange Christmas Stableford

Division One - First place, Paul Showler (42 points). Second place, Neil Thompson (38 points). Third place, Sam Ludlow (37 points).

Division Two - First place, Michael Raftis (35 points). Second place, Mark Lamb (35 points). Third place, Steve Wilcockson (35 points).

Be prepared...

It’s common knowledge that fewer people play golf during the winter months, which makes both our course and our pro shop a little quieter. During that extra time we got to thinking: is there such a thing as bad weather for golf?

There’s an old proverb - ‘failing to prepare is preparing to fail’ - that often rings true in golf. For example, if you head out to play in the winter without golf-specific clothing then you’re setting yourself up for a tough time, just like if you were to go on a winter run wearing a woolly jumper and baggy jeans.

The New Year is upon us, which gives you the chance to do something different and start afresh with your game. Regardless of how 2017 went on the course, you’ll want to improve over the next 12 months and this is something we can certainly help you to achieve.

Let’s talk golfing goals
Having something to work towards is a great way of keeping yourself motivated throughout the year, as long as it’s a realistic target, so here’s a task for you:

Write down three achievable goals for your 2018 season

These could range from lowering your handicap by a shot or hitting more greens in regulation, to playing at least one round each week. Once you’ve done this:

Jot down some ways to help you achieve each of your goals

Sometimes we can get transfixed on our end goal without thinking about how we go about reaching it, but it’s only by making some smaller changes that we give ourselves the best chance of success.

For example, if one of your goals was to get your handicap down then the best way to go about this is to identify the weakest parts of your game and try to improve them through a series of lessons. We’d love to hear what your goals are for 2018, so please come and share them with us the next time you’re in the shop.
