Focus area- Aren't golf balls all the same? Something we often hear or discover is golfers use a selection of different balls for their game, quite often ball fitting is simply; whatever is in the bag! The golf ball is the only piece of equipment we use for every shot, and we should take more care on which one we are using to ensure it is enhancing our performance.
In an ideal world we would all be using a ‘Tour Ball’ whether that be a Titleist Pro V1, TaylorMade TP5, Callaway Chrome Soft or similar as they offer the best ‘all in one’ performance benefits, such as longest distance, most short game spin and will last the longest (providing we don't lose them!)
However even at lower price points, there are still a selection of options which depending on your needs can offer performance benefits, whether that be a soft feel with short game spin or more distance and higher flight. Last week we put the two latest Titleist golf balls to test to see the difference with some pitch shots and full 7 irons, as you can see the main difference was the spin on pitch shots (almost 20% more with the Titleist Tour Soft) plus the overall feel/sound of the balls. If you struggle to stop the balls on the green or don't get any ‘spin/check’ on your chips, you need a ball that spins more (RPM) and if you looking to hit it further you would want a ball that launches higher to get optimum launch/distance.
