Hello golfers,
I hope everyone is well and ready for this week's club championships. It's going to top off a busy week of golf at the club. Last week's USPGA championship was won by Rory. I have to say his game is very Tiger 1999/2000 esq. and I really think he will continue to dominate for a long time.
I once had the privilege of playing with Rory McIlroy a long time ago when we were both juniors. He beat me by a shot however I think it would be a lot more than that now!!!
Well done to Derek Mankelow, Paul Kingstone and Ian Allan who like myself predicted Rory to win. Call into the shop to collect your sleeve of Pro V1's.
If you're after the Rory look, look no further we have the Nike collection he has recently been winning everything in! Will it have the same effect on your game?
The Pro Am was played on Wednesday in windy but sunny conditions. The course was in great condition and the day ran very smoothly. In total 160 golfers played in the event (teams of 4 containing 3 amateurs and 1 pro) with 2 out of 4 scores counting towards the team prize, as well as an individual Professional event. On a tough day, scoring was great with some of the top pros from the midlands playing in the event. Former Ryder Cup player and multiple European tour winner Paul Broadhurst won the individual competition by 3. Shooting an awesome score of 65 (-6) including a back 9 of just 30 shots! Shane Rose from Cold Ashby was second on 68 (-3) and a 3 way tie for 3rd place with 69 (-2) for John Paul Banbury, Andrew Willey and Jak Hamblett.
Unfortunately we weren't quite on song and challenging for the top spots. Adam shooting 75 (+4) and I shot a level par 71. The feedback we had from visiting professionals was all very positive.
The team event was won by PMGC members Martin Humphries, Chris Ellis, Lou Manganiello with their team professional Dan Wood from Brampton Heath shooting a score of 126 (-16). The team qualified for the Pro Am by winning their respective divisions in the May Medal qualifier.
The Seniors Club Championship was played on Thursday and scoring was equally impressive! Seniors Captain Bill Forrest took top spot with a great score of nett 65 off his 23 handicap. I'd imagine that maybe Bill's last round off that handicap!
2nd Tom Streeton 77-10=67 nett
3rd Mick Stephens 81-12=69 nett
4th Pete Glover 83-12=71 nett
August Mdweek Medal. Standard scratch 72 (+1)
Division 1. Reza Bande-Ali shot a great score of gross 67 (-4) for a nett 65.
Division 2. Bob Streeton 81-13=68 nett
Division 3. Paul Sproat 86-21= 65 nett

Short and sweet. A bad decision is better than a bad shot. Stick to your routine and trust your instincts. We've all got to the top of the backswing and had thoughts like "is this the right club?" , "was that such and such over there?", "don't hit it left", "what's for dinner?" etc etc.
Thoughts like these aren't going to help. Stick to a pre shot routine, if you haven't got one get one! Make your decisions and things before the shot, once you've done this pull the trigger, thinking mainly of your target. Anyone struggling with anything like this have a read of Your 15th Club by Bob Rotella.
