Welcome to the latest edition of our weekly newsletter. We hope you are all well and enjoying good golf. It has been a busy week with events on each day, including our over 60s Open, Ladies County 4bbb Championship plus our Club competitions. The course is in fantastic condition and really is a pleasure to play!

Time flies when you're having fun and believe it or not Tuesday marked 1 year since we opened our indoor studio.

At the time it was a huge decision for us, but we are so pleased we made it and we are so proud to be able offer you all the facilities we have.

We are very fortunate to be at a great golf club with a very supportive membership. Thank you to you all we look forward to being at the Club for many more years to come.

Club news

Captains Charity Day- spaces available

There are still spaces available in the Captains Charity Day on Wednesday 27th June. It is open to members and visitors playing in a team of 4 with an AM AM format. The cost is £35 per player and this includes food afterwards.

There will also be a raffle afterwards and an auction in which prizes include some four balls at some top courses!

On Sunday 36 golfers, including Adam and Andy are heading to Southport for Captain Graham’s Away Trip for 5 rounds of golf on some top courses. We are sure it will be a great trip and are very much looking forward to it. We are sure you’ll be in safe hands with Sam and Big Al holding the fort.

Junior news

PMGC Juniors shining in County Championship

Our Junior Teams have had a cracking start to the season and have a busy few weeks ahead on three fronts.

In the Cambridgeshire Friendly Cup we travel to St Ives for the semi final on 17th in our attempt to retain the trophy for the second time.

In the national RBL knockout, three of our teams are into the last 64 - a remarkable achievement but all have tough away draws. Our girls travel to Belton Woods on Sunday and our two boys/mixed teams travel to Harewood Downs and Purdis Heath later in the month. Good luck to all of you.

We have had a great start in the Northants Junior League with two solid home wins against teams from defending champions Northampton. For the first time ever we have entered a girls team into the Junior League (pictured) and they stormed to victory against Northampton A in their first match with big victories for Hannah Talbot, Emily Horsted and Megan Chandler. Our boys A team also triumphed against Northampton B with impressive wins for Kai Raymond, Morgan Cresswell and Harry Smith, the B team play their first match at Overstone later in the month.

New boy on the block Ollie Clark stormed to victory in the Eric Robinson Trophy and another good performance in the Junior County Championship has seen Ollie's handicap tumble from 27 to 18 in a month. Megan Chandler has been playing great golf recently and her 43 points in the Red Robin Trophy saw her cruise to victory (and a 3 shot handicap cut!).

In the Junior County Championship our juniors did us proud, where we fielded 19 players - a third of the field. Winning their age groups were Hannah Talbot, Emily Horsted, Harry Smith, Ollie Clark and Jacob Williams. Our team of Hannah Talbot, Ollie Clark and Rajeev Rajani retained the Shoe and Leather Cup for the best nett team. Pride of place though for Shivani Karthikeyan, Girls Nett County Champion 2018.

All of this success is thanks to the hard work, practice and dedication our juniors put in, much under the wing of Coach Chambo! And it was great to see Robin at our latest junior squad short game session, Robin's achievements are really inspiring for our youngsters.

Ryder Cup hopefuls staking their claim

The final leaderboard at last week’s Italian Open made for interesting reading. Home favourite Francesco Molinari was attempting back-to-back victories after his previous week’s triumph at Wentworth but had to settle for second place, one behind Thorbjørn Olesen who captured his fifth European Tour title in the process. Both golfers will have their eyes firmly set on a place in Europe’s Ryder Cup team come September as well as several top-10 finishers from the Italian Open such as Cabrera-Bello, Sullivan, Poulter and Willett.

Someone else looking to compete in Paris is young American Bryson DeChambeau who conjured up a timely victory at the Memorial Tournament. There were several stories at the beginning of the week including Justin Rose’s opportunity to rise to the top of the world rankings with a win (he finished T6) and Tiger Woods’ latest event of his eye-catching comeback (he led the field in several tee-to-green categories but faced putting woes throughout the week to end up six shots back), but DeChambeau stole the headlines with his playoff win to secure PGA title number two.
