Scratch Team Vs Northamptonshire County After no wins from three games, this was a must win against the strongest team in the County. They brought their big guns with the team of 8 having a combined handicap of “0” and boasting four County first team players. But Milton were up for this one. I had deliberately put one of our strongest match players, Ian Wicks, out top to get us off to a winning start and he didn’t disappoint winning 3 & 2. Chris Savage made a half, before Jay Noye won again playing solid golf against a scratch opponent. I also managed to come back from 2 down after 7 to win 3 & 2 against an England U18 member. Experience did count! That put us 3.5 – 0.5 up, needing only 1 point from the final four games to win. That came from Chris White who beat the recently crowned County Champion 3 & 2. Jamie Hibbert and Tom Burgh fought hard but could not add to the tally. That left newcomer Tom Forster off +2 against Charlie Salter off +3! It is great to see that quality of golf at Milton in the Scratch League, their match finished honours even. A brilliant win and a very proud Captain. More of the same please boys and we can still challenge. Man of the Match was Chris White for taking the scalp of the reigning County Champion. Martin Herson

There’s a new ball in town! Some of you may have seen or heard there is a new Titleist ball being released this month, the new Titleist AVX (Alternative to V or X) which is lower spinning, lower flying and softer than the current Pro V1 and Pro V1x. We have had some in for testing, take a look at the video below to see how Andy found it. These balls are in limited supply and will be in store in later this month.

Putting- Is your aim costing you strokes? Quite often, we hear about and see people missing putts (left or right) and this can be simply down to where they are aiming the clubface at address. If you’re aiming the putter face too far left or too far right at address there is more chance you’ll miss the putt that way, or make a manipulation during in the stroke to counteract the incorrect face aim. See picture below of a customer that came for a fitting last week. He was aiming his putter to the right of target and then compensating my pull the ball back onto target and sometime missing left. An aim like this can cause some major inconsistencies.
|
There are loads of easy drills to practice and things you can do on the course that will help to improve your face aim including alignment sticks, putter alignments and ball markings. If you’re looking to work on and improve your putting, book a lesson today and start saving shots on the greens!

Which club do you use most? The answer is your putter, and by some margin too. But how many of you are still using any old putter rather than one that is custom fitted to your stroke? From different head shapes to various alignment aids to multiple putter lengths, there are several ways in which your putter needs to be correctly suited to you. So come and speak to a member of the team in July and we'll give you a FREE fitting and lesson with selected putter purchases. |
|
Fittings work! Many of you have been custom fitted and are aware of the benefits of having clubs that are measured to you and your swing, but we still hear “I’m not good enough for custom fitted club’, “I’m too old for custom fitted clubs” amongst others but fitting does suit everyone and can help everyone! One of our customers recently sent us this: "I am defiantly getting more distance, which was the objective, and mostly finding the fairways. I like the feel of the club and the fitting really does have its benefits. The lessons that I had with Adam have also borne fruit and my short game is improving as he said it would. So, all in all, yes I'm very happy thanks to you and the team. See you soon Kind Regards"

The past few months have seen us talk a lot about the importance of using clubs that are suited to your game because, ultimately, they’re going to give you the most help when out on the course. One piece of equipment we haven’t touched on yet, which needs just as much attention, is your putter. |
How do you narrow down the options? If you come by the shop to buy a new putter, you’ll be faced with an array of styles. From different head shapes and alignment guides, to various lengths and grip types. So how do you know which one will help you hole more putts? There are some trends you can look to. Larger mallet putters like this Odyssey O-Works EXO Indianapolis S (first putter) tend to suit golfers with straighter putting arcs, while they are also a little more stable to help with shorter putts. In comparison, blades like this Odyssey O-Works Red #1 Wide (second putter) can usually help those of you with more of an arcing stroke, while some players also prefer the feel a traditional blade offers. Of course, the most sensible thing to do is come to us once you have a shortlist and we can advise you on which model will best suit your stroke type and take you through a full custom fitting. Just imagine how many shots you could drop by holing more putts.
