Scratch league - Harlestonen 4.5 vs PMGC 3.5 A very disappointing day, not least that in over 30 years of my playing and being involved in Scratch league, this is the first occasion that Milton have not been able to find 8 players to make up a team! So a team of 7 travelled to an important game 1 – 0 down before we started. And we nearly pulled it off! Elliott Fullerton had a fantastic win on the last, Nathan Holt made a birdie on the last to half his game. Even I managed a win being 1 down with 2 to play, to give us a chance. Tom Burgh at anchor played brilliant golf to beat their +2 guy on the 16th and so it came to Ian Wicks to decide the match. Ian, 1 down on the last and needing to win the hole for a 4 – 4. Their Captain, miles right off the tee, had to play a low runner under trees pitching “out of bounds” and careering back inbounds onto the edge of the green. Two putts followed and despite Ian giving his birdie effort every chance it was not to be. So a really disappointing loss, what could have been? We have four games left and need to get some points. We have a very strong squad on paper but the sad truth is we are not turning up! If we did, I have no doubt we would have won at the weekend. Martin Herson
