Good afternoon golfers, it's been a great week for golf with the sun shining and the course busy.
I hope everyone is well and enjoyed the Ryder Cup. It was great viewing from start to finish and by Sunday afternoon it was a convincing victory for Europe as they successfully defended the trophy. Although a team effort, personally I thought there were noticeable individual performances by Justin Rose who was unbeaten in 5 matches (3 wins, 2 halves), Rory McIlroy who was -9 after 12 holes in the Sunday singles and Jamie Donaldson who on his debut at the age of 38 secured the winning point by beating Keegan Bradley 4+3. The standard of golf on show was fantastic by both teams, however and I was surprised by Phil Mickleson's interview earlier this week!
Victory Cup
Shaun May and Dave Fear won the Victory Cup on Sunday beating Paul Showler and Mark Johnson in the final.
Hollingsworth Trophy
The PMGC team won in the semi final after beating Daventry GC 3-2 at Kingsthorpe on Saturday. With all matches close, the winning point came on the 4th extra hole for Scott O’Connor and Neil Thompson who had managed a birdie on the final hole to send it to sudden death. The final will be played on Sunday 12th October against Brampton Heath at Kettering Golf Club. A great achievement and best of luck for the final!

A simple but effective one this week. How many holes does it take you to start playing your normal game?
Warm up! before your round, take a few minutes to get yourself physically and mentally prepared to play whether it be to hit a few balls on the range/in the net, a stretching routine or something similar. Quite often we see players running from their car, the spike bar or changing rooms have a couple of swings then hit their first tee shot. This isn’t ideal preparation! muscles are cold and tight and your club head speed is reduced, you also increase the risk of injury. The tour pros will nearly always hit balls before and after their round. A warm up doesn’t mean hitting 50 balls, a 100 balls or even a single ball, it can be done simply by some gentle dynamic stretching of golf specific muscles (arms, shoulders, back, hips etc) to ready yourself for your round. This is vital once the temperature drops as muscles are naturally tighter in cooler conditions.
