Academy success PMGC juniors had yet another nail-biting down to the wire win in the latest round of the BCCS National Knockout. Facing a tough, away fixture and giving plenty of shots at Stoke Rochford both pairings made good starts and took an early lead. By half-way Emily Horsted and Charlie Pearce were one down, but Rylan Thomas and Captain Sam Balaam were playing great golf and two up. Emily and Charlie quickly turned their match round and both matches headed down the 17th with Milton one up. A strong finish for Emily and Charlie's opponents resulted in a halved match so it was all down to Captain Sam to calmly roll in a crucial par putt on the 18th for an overall one up victory and progress through to the third round. Meanwhile our Academy Team have made a great start in the Northamptonshire Golf Sixes League. Jack "boom boom" Lemmings smashed a winning long drive 220 yards. Thomas Glover and Jack had a steady 38 points. Sam Mayman and Louis Sanderson had the joint second best score of the day with 43 points. Star performers and best overall pair on the day were Isaac Wakefield and Harry Roberts with a stunning 44 including an eagle two on the 5th hole! PMGC's 125 points total was four clear of hosts and reigning champs Overstone and we go top of the league after the first match, with events to come in August at Northants County, Northampton and PMGC. So a great start to the league campaign (winning team pictured), well done to the whole squad for all your hard work on your golf which is clearly paying dividends and to Team Manager Jade Roberts for all her hard work on the day.
Well done also to Jacob Williams who made up for the disappointment of not making the cut at the Midland Youths by finishing fifth in the follow up Andrew Hare Trophy with a gross 73 round at Stoke Rochford. Robin Williams represented England Under 18's last week in the European Championships in Chantilly France. In the Strokeplay Qualifying England came third and Robin was 44th in the individual event (74+76). The eight top teams then entered a Matchplay Tournament to decide the Team Championship and in the Quarter Finals England were disappointed to lose in a sudden death play-off against arch rivals Ireland. In the 5th-8th place play-offs Robin won both his foursomes matches with Junior Ryder Cup partner Conor Gough to secure England 5th place overall. Hosts France went on to beat Germany in the Final.
