Scratch league 2019 PMGC 2 vs 6 Northants County You have to win your home games in Scratch League. Even if the opponent is on paper the strongest team we play. 2018 saw a fantastic win against a side with a combined handicap of +3!! This is always the grudge match of the season. The Liverpool vs Man Utd, the Arsenal vs Tottenham, so it again was so disappointing that Milton fielded an inexperienced side. As you will see form the score, the quality of Northants County, even with themselves some missing, was too good. Combined handicaps of Milton were 29 and County were 10. I know its matchplay and we are at home, but 19 shots difference over an 8 man team is like Man City v Peterborough. I am however always grateful for the players that are prepared to go out there for the club and give their all.The wins came from Stef Salerno and Michael (still unbeaten!) Wood. However there were other close calls, both Howard Boylan and Ian Wicks were pipped on the last hole. Howard playing a scratch golfer and Ian playing a +2 handicap. So the score flattered County a little! I was totally outplayed by the 2018 County Champion, although having a hospital appointment Saturday at 11am didn’t help but there was no-one else! I should have got a Doctor’s note. Elliott Fullerton, Jacob Williams and Chris Savage sadly came up against tough opponents. So a loss at home, the first for a long time, and again firmly in a relegation battle. The next match is away at Staverton, 140 mile round trip. Oh joy! I know I keep on about it, but this again proves that we can’t truly compete on an even basis in Division 1 unless our Cat 1 players step up more often and are prepared to represent the club. Man of the Match - A joint award to our 2 winners, Stef and Michael. Fantastic wins! Martin Herson
