Weekly update… Congratulations to Rylan Thomas and Emily Horsted who are the new Scratch and Handicap Junior Club Champions. In the scratch event for the Wilson Cannon Trophy it was very tight at lunchtime, with Rylan and Charlie Pearce level on 80, Jacob Williams and Emily on 81 and Shivani Karthikeyan just behind on 82. With the weather forecast very poor, it was always going to be down to who could grind it out in the afternoon so when Rylan started the afternoon with a double bogey with the rain beginning to get heavier, the pressure was on. Seven straight pars steadied the ship for Rylan and despite bogies at 9, 14 and 15 his level par last three holes with the greens beginning to puddle up secured a well-deserved title with a total of 80+76=156. Playing alongside Rylan, Jacob Williams’ treble bogey 7 at the 4th set him back in the second round but he battled through the rain for a creditable second place and 81+78=159. Shivani's 82+80=162 earned her third place in the scratch event. In the handicap event for the Milton Shield and despite a treble bogey on the last, Emily's 81-14=67 gave her a healthy lunchtime lead over Charlie Pearce 80-10=70 and Megan Chandler 92-21=71. Steady golf was needed in the trying afternoon conditions and Emily delivered just that. The only blemish was a 6 down the last but the win was safely in the bag by then with a winning nett total of 67+71=138. With Rylan (75+71=146) already winning the scratch event, second place in the nett went to the ever steady Megan Chandler (71+75=146) and finding the afternoon conditions tough, Charlie Pearce slipped slightly down the leaderboard but still came in 3rd on 70+77=147. In the 18 hole (reduced to 16 holes due to weather) Junior Masters event it was 10 year old Isaac Hedger who won his first "major" with an excellent 31 points. Thomas Glover is improving fast and came in second with 26 points with Harry Roberts settling in to his new handicap coming in third. A very big thank you to The Captain, Adam Chamberlain, Tony Edwards and Brooks Wealth for their very generous sponsorship of the excellent prize table. In the Northants Order of Merit events Milton's juniors continue to do well. At the Wellingborough Junior Open Shivani Karthikeyan added another Girls gross title to her growing trophy haul this year, with Chelsey Sharp winning the overall nett and at the Northampton Junior Open a very good gross 72 saw Jacob Williams take the runner up spot.
