Scratch league 2019 Update PMGC v Harlestone 21st September PMGC 4 : 4 Harlestone So already in relegation trouble and a must-win game. A withdrawal at 11.30 on match day did not help and this contributed to a team of 7 and 1:0 down before we started! No match got past the 16th, very rare indeed. After Ryan Thomas and Howard Boylan battled but came second we were 3:0 down and in real trouble. However, wins from Jacob Williams (4&3) and myself (4&3) got us back in the game. In the top games news was better, both James Walters and Chris White ahead. So a close finish was on. Unfortunately, Ian Wicks faced a barrage from his opponent and his game had gone. With James and Chris comfortable winning a 4:4 was the score. What would it have been with a full team. We will never know. Dropping a point at home and still in trouble! Man of the Match: Chris White playing a +2 County first team player he had never beaten. A 3&2 win for one of our top performers. Finally got your man Chris!
PMGC V Wellingborough 28th September PMGC 3 ½: Wellingborough 4 ½ Another must-win game, and the good news we had an 8. Neil Thompson and Steven Smail drafted in. Rylan Thomas, one of our promising Juniors and getting accustomed to Scratch league golf led off and won a gutsy point 2&1 to get us off to a start. Neil Thompson then played fantastic golf to easily win 5&4. So far so good. Unfortunately, I had a mare, nothing worked and I was truly stuffed 5&4. Ian Wicks also had a day to forget. So 2:2. The news came through that Tom Burgh had beaten their top player and soon to be pro! 8 & 6, a right royal thrashing! With Jacob Williams bowing out 3&2 it was all on the last match, Steven Smail, 1 up and 1 to play, sadly found water off the tee but played a fantastic third to the edge of the green and made a 5 forcing the opponent to make 4 to get a half and win the game. Bad news, he did. Played a fantastic second to a back pin to about 15’ and casually rolled it dead. So a home loss and we are staring relegation in the face with 2 games left. A sad day. 2 home losses in the season. Never heard of! Man of the Match: Two really. Tom Burgh amazing performance to win 8&6 and Rylan Thomas who showed great composure as a Junior to win a close game 2&1. Martin Herson |
