Good afternoon golfers we trust everyone is well and enjoying the better weather. Firstly can I welcome you to our first newsletter through the new website. This has only recently been designed and after a few teething problems it is now up and running. We feel this will be a great move and hope you enjoy the layout and design, I think you'll find it a lot more user friendly. If you have any feedback please let us know. We have been getting into the swing of things- playing and practising (you have to practise what you preach!), lessons, custom fits and the very popular March MOT's. If you need any help with any aspect of your game pop in or let us know!
In the last couple of weeks competitions have started and there is already some impressive golf being played. The last two standard scratches of the Men's Medal have been 75 (4 over par) and 73 (2 over par). This shows how difficult the course is playing, with the white tees out and not a lot of run it really is playing tough. The course in the main is in great condition and we have to thank Kevin and his team for their continued hard work.
1st March Weekend Medal (standard scratch 75)
Division 1 - Jay Noye (75 gross, 71 nett)
Division 2 - Roy Chowings (90 gross, 75 nett)
Division 3 - Andy Martin (89 gross, 71 nett)
6th March Midweek Medal (standard scratch 73)
Division 1 - Gary White (79 gross, 72 nett)
Division 2 - Kevin Julian (92 gross, 77 nett)
Division 3 - David Gregg (79 gross, 63 nett)
If you have been at the other end of the leaderboard and you are finding it difficult to make the transition from winter golf to medal golf, why not book a lesson and improve your future performance? Visit us in the shop or click here to find out how you could improve your game
In the meantime here are a couple practise drills to help sharpen the short game and get you into scoring mode:
1 ball chipping
Using 1 ball only select 18 different short game shots and chip and putt out like you would on the course. Make sure you keep score and try to beat it next time. In practise it is easy just to hit another shot if we hit a bad shot however with this drill it really makes you concentrate, and gets you used to hitting one shot at a time. You only have one chance on the course!
Putting; holing out drill
Put 4 tee pegs in the green at 12 o'clock, 3 o'clock, 6 o'clock and 9 o'clock 2 feet from the hole. When you hole 4 in a row move the tee pegs back a foot and start again from 3 feet and keep adding a foot every time you hole all 4. If you miss one you go back to 2 feet away. This gets you holing those vital putts inside 10 feet which is often the difference between a round under your handicap or a round over you handicap. A bit of pressure/game related practise will really help to build confidence. Let us know how far round you get!

The addition of PING Collection is something we hope you like, the clothing looks great for this year.
Some of the new 2014 FootJoy collection has arrived with the latest styles of the ever popular Contour series, the Hydrolite series which is a new addition for 2014. ebay Shop
In the next couple of weeks we will be starting an eBay shop which will be used to sell off last season's ranges and old styles. You will be able to use this and buy products from the site, the products will just be stored offsite. This is so we have room for all of the new ranges coming through the door on a regular basis.
Get Into Golf
On Saturday our first 6 week free beginner course started. The course is a great introduction to the game which covers all aspects of the game. We hope to do as many as these as possible throughout the year, if you know anybody who may be interested in these classes please contact us. They will take place on a Saturday morning from 9-10.
Golf lessons don't always have to be on a one to one basis. We are also available for group coaching- if you have work colleagues, family members or employees who you feel could be looking to take up golf or improve their golf we can design a package for this. Please contact us in the pro shop or click here for more information.
