Andy Leaving

As you will all know Andy is in his last week with us.

I wanted to dedicate this newsletter to my friend who I share some extremely fond memories!

I first met Andy when I joined Burghley Park nearly 15 years ago, at the time Andy was Champion of pretty much everything at Burghley.

He was a plus 2 handicap golfer and an extremely good competitor, who I lost money to regularly.

Our friendship grew as we started travelling and playing competitions together and then into professional events. Our love for the game was what helped us when we started at Milton. We started playing pros matches against the members for a small bet which if we won went into the captain’s charity. The first match was against the Captain and Chairman at the time Howard May and Russell Laxton

I owe Andy a great deal of thanks for all his hard work that has helped us come such a long way since we started!

We had some very noticeable wins, which as you can tell Andy enjoyed especially Mr Cole having to put his money in the captain's charity box!

We are always had a bet when we were playing on the best score for the day.

The smile tells you all you need to know of how much he enjoyed taking my money!

It’s fair to say that we have had an awful lot of fun working together other the last 7 years!

Andy, you will be missed but never forgotten!

We had a fantastic week away in Turkey, the weather was great courses were really nice and the company was brilliant.

In fact, it was so good I’m already planning next years trip so watch this space if you’re interested in coming next year.

The art of putting

‘Drive for show, putt for dough’. No doubt you have heard this one a few times before but considering putting equates to between 30 to 50% of our shots on the course, it also has a large element of truth in it.

The whole puzzle

If you're considering buying new irons this year, have a think about how they are going to blend into the rest of your set. The idea is to have equal yardage gaps between each club in your bag so, if you are going to treat yourself, it might be worth replacing a long iron with a hybrid that is easier to hit.

Take danger out of play

The illustration here is a good example of where a hybrid comes in handy. When our driver brings danger into play and a long-iron leaves us too far to the green, a hybrid is the perfect option.
