We really are looking forward to playing some golf this year! Following on from last week's club head speed tip, we are going to explain how to harness this extra club head speed.
First we would like to explain that the Club Face (with a driver) has 90% influence over the initial start direction and curvature of the shot, so if your ball is not going in the direction you intend it is almost certainly the club face alignment that is causing the problem. When the golf ball curves you are giving up distance, so squaring the face at impact is vital to produce your longest drives.
Secondly, a strike from the sweet spot of the club is very important to producing your longest tee shot. If you are missing the middle of the face on the driver you will be giving away yards of the tee. Practice with some impact tape (we have plenty) on the face of the driver to see how your ball striking is. There is no point creating extra club head speed if you can’t transfer it to the golf ball!
Finally, to help hit the ball from the middle of the clubface we need to have good balance as this will affect your club path and your club face alignment. Practice hitting drivers with your feet together, with the ball just in front of your leading foot, with as much speed as you can produce whilst maintain your balance. This should help you get the most out of your tee shots but will require some practice!

It’s the first monthly medal of the year tomorrow, even in good conditions it's bound to playing tough. The course is in good condition and the greens are quick, it might be worth having a few minutes on the putting green before your round. Even though the course will be playing long but remember it’s the same for everyone, if you have a bad start keep going as scores are often higher than you think this time of year as people are still getting used to white tees and holing out again! Stay patient and stay out of the trees!
Have a great weekend, enjoy the rest of the newsletter.
