Good afternoon golfers. We hope everyone is well and enjoyed a weekend of sunshine. It has certainly made the course busy and brought plenty of golfers out from their winter hibernation. Adam and I have also managed to get some practice and a couple of rounds in. It’s a lot nicer in the sun!
The Captain vs. Vice Captain's match was played on Sunday in sunny, windy conditions. The format was 4ball betterball with 8 pairs per side. Neil Brown's team won by the small margin of two points. Neil and I managed to get 41 points which was the best of the day, closely followed by the Captain and Adam on 39 points. The course (especially the greens) was in fantastic condition, even if it was a bit strange (difficult) to be playing from the white tees!
On Wednesday Neil Brown, Richard Cole, Adrian Randall and I played in the Pro Am at Northants County. The team finshed -8 with the best two from four scores to count. In the individual competition I came fourth with a level par score of 70, former PMGC Professional Mike Gallagher won the day with a score of 68 (-2). We were back out again on Thursday at Thetford golf club. In windy conditions Adam shot 74 (+2) to finish fourth, I was one back on that with 75 (+3). A great couple of days golfing and we both look forward to having a game or two with you soon. If you interested in playing in any Pro Am's please click here or speak to us in the pro shop.

Practice Tip
Wedge shots distance control - a hugely important area of the game. Also an area often neglected in practice. It is easier to hit a wedge straight but getting both accuracy and distance is difficult. To help sharpen your distance control and make sure you are scoring well I recommend the following practise drill
With each of your wedges hit 10-15 shots working out how far you hit each with different lengths of swing. Imagine a clock face with the address position being 6 o’clock and work out your yardages with the following swings with each of your wedges:
9 o’clock to 3 o’clock
10 o’clock to 2 o’clock
11 o’clock to 1 o’clock
Take out the longest and shortest few shots and record the average. This will give you a good base of yardages to use on the course - I keep a record of the distances in my golf bag.
