Coach corner

Adam'stip of the week

Bunkers can ruin people's medal cards…. Thequestion is: why do people struggle out ofbunkers and what are the keys to getting better?A common fault is people try to lift the ballout of the sand which results in their weightgoing back and hitting the sand to far behindthe ball. Causing fat and thin shots (think toomuch sand and stays in the bunker or fliesstraight through the green at 100mph).

The key to good bunker play is to firstunderstand that the sand sends the ball out ofthe bunker and not us hitting the ball, weachieve this by feeling as if we are to hit downand through the sand behind under the ball (1-2inches behind the ball and 1-2 inches downdepending on the lie)

Drill

Draw a line in the sand behind the ball as shownin the picture, now play a shot and look atwhere you hit the sand behind the ball. If yourtoo far back then we need to get more weight onyour front foot at address and impact, this willmake sure that your club contacts the sand inthe right place.

Seethis video for the correct set-up and notice howthe club glides through the sand and the ballpops up and out of the bunker.

The key to improving is trying to exaggeratethese positions in slow motion without a balland then hitting a shot.

Is it time to put your bunker struggles behindyou….Why don't you have a look at our Sevelesson package and let us help you escape fromthe sand!
