Good afternoon and thanks for taking the time to read this week's newsletter. As you read this Adam is playing a Pro-am at Northampton Golf club with 3 members and I'm away for two days playing a competition at Hunstanton and Kings Lynn Golf club. We will let you know how we do in next week's newsletter.
It's Masters week and we hope it's a great tournament and good viewing. A little newsletter competition for this week. Send in a video of your favourite shot from any previous Masters and myself and Adam will decide the winner. It could be a chip shot or an Ian Poulter shank. The prize will be some Pro V1s - we look forward to having a few great shots (or not) to watch.
We have a busy weekend coming up for the James Berry Memorial weekend, with competitions from Friday through until Monday. We hope everyone enjoys their golf, plays them in the spirit they should and we raise plenty of money for the charity. The James Berry Memorial Committee would like to thank everyone for their support.
The Monthly Medal took place on Sunday in blustery conditions. The standard scratch was 74 (+3) which shows just how tough the course is playing at the minute. The results are as follows:
Division 1
Simon Purkiss 76-5= 71 nett
Division 2
Mike Thackery 76-7=69 nett
Division 3
Paul Ginty 87-16= 71 nett
Division 4
Sion Lewis 90-21= 69 nett
Congratulations to Elaine Mankelow who came 4th in the Ladies East Regional Medal finals on Wednesday at Chelmsford Golf Club. The top 10 qualify for the national final to be held this year at our very own Peterborough Milton Golf Club on the 28th June. We wish her all the best for the finals.
It's the time of year when the fairways start getting shorter, the lies you get are crisper and there is no placing. This can often make it more difficult to strike irons shots crisply.
To ensure a good clean strike we would like to explain how you have hit down onto the ball and strike the ball before the turf. Divots should always be after the ball! Firstly, check your ball position is forwards of centre (personally I like to place the ball opposite my left ear for all of my iron shots) and then ensure from the top of the downswing your weight is going forwards towards the target. If the weight stays too far back you'll have a shallow angle of attack and hit the ground before the ball.
We had a Titleist Demo day on Tuesday with all of our slots taken by PMGC members. From drivers to wedges, people had the opportunity to hit a selection of clubs from the latest ranges. We thank everyone who came along and hope everyone enjoyed it. If you missed out on hitting some of the latest products remember we have a wide selection of demo clubs here at the Club.
