The Eagle has landed for PMGC Juniors
Golf Sixes League
We have once again been playing in the Golf Sixes League with Collingtree Park and Overstone Park this year and it is a great opportunity for our youngest golfers (some as young as 7-year-old Jack) to get out on the courses and learn about competitive golf. It is great to watch them all improving so well. Last weekend saw another record league score for us which would have won in many previous weeks but we came up against some older, longer-hitting opponents who are also improving fast and we narrowly came in 3rd.
The scores for PMGC were
James C and Cadence 43 points
Ahad and Ben 42 points
Jasper and John 44 points
Sophie and Jack 36 points
Well played everybody and good luck in the final fixture at Milton on 22nd September. Pictured left to right are: Sophie, Cadence, Ben, John, Ahad, Jasper, James and Jack
NGL Junior League Semi-Finals
After an excellent league campaign, both of our junior teams finished up runners-up in their respective leagues and made the NGL League semi-finals but were drawn away in tough games against the two table-topping teams Northampton and Collingtree Park.
On Saturday it was a great effort by PMGC Junior A away to Northampton. Maliha Mirza won the last two holes to secure an important half in the first match. Isaac Wakefield battled well and in a ding-dong match with the lead changing several times a half was probably a fair result in match 2. Will Rudkin played some great golf and was always in control and eased home 4&2. So Max Malyon stood on the last tee one down needing to win the hole to secure the win. But it was not to be and Captain Maliha went down the first in a sudden death playoff against Northampton's Captain Cameron Black. Cameron had a rock-solid 4 but Maliha's approach which took a bad bounce left her needing a tricky up and down. The putt fell just low and sadly we were out in the closest of finishes but congratulations to Northampton - but who would they play in the final?
Over to PMGC B who faced a tough task in the other semi at Collingtree on Sunday. Another day another playoff and an incredible finish. Isaac Hedger was always trailing and lost 3&2. Max Edwards was Mr DownTheMiddle as usual, played well and won 2 and 1. The other two matches were nailbiters. Ollie Samler played well and stood on the last 1 up but a couple of visits to the water on Collingtree's tough 18th hole left the game finished at all square. Sam Mayman had a titanic struggle in a low-scoring affair going down the last 1 down but held his nerve when his opponent found the water to square his game and it was 2 - 2 and another playoff.
Captain Isaac took a steady iron from the tee while his opponent took the advantage with a driver down the middle. Hitting their second shots Isaac found the green with an 8 iron from 162 yards but it was difficult to see where the ball had finished against the low sun, while Collingtree's Adam Haywood found the front trap with a wedge. Remarkably when the assembled crowd reached the green, Isaac found his pitch mark 4 inches from the hole and the ball was in the cup for an incredible eagle two to secure a final place for Peterborough Milton B against Northampton in early October.
Commiserations to Collingtree on giving us a great game played in a terrific spirit. Pictured left to right are PMGC B, Ollie, Max, Sam and Isaac.
Well done to all the young players who have represented the club at Golf Sixes and Junior level this year - you continue to do us proud!
